Footnote
In practice, it may not always be possible for an auditor to resign from an audit engagement when the acceptable level of audit risk is less than the risk level the auditor believes s/he can achieve. In some jurisdictions, regulatory authorities may not allow the auditor to resign. In other instances, where the regulatory authority would allow the auditor to resign in such circumstances, the auditor either overestimates the acceptable level of risk or underestimates the achievable level of risk.
